Siegesbeckia Orientalis Reduces Blood Pressure and Relieves Thrombosis

Siegesbeckia Orientalis is the upper part of commom St. Pauls wort, a plant of the composite family. The plant is a one-year herb, 30 to 100 cm high. The up right plant grows in wild grasslands, brushes, and forests at 100 to 2700 meters above sea level and is widely found in Shanxi, Gansu, Jiangsu, Anhui, Zhejiang, Jiangxi, Fujian, Taiwan, Hunan, Guangdong, Guangxi, Sichuan, Guizhou, Yunnan and Hainan.

According to the fifteenth volume of Compendium of Materia Medica written by Lee Shih-chen, Siegesbeckia Orientalis is hot, bitter, calm, and non-toxic. A therapy with Siegesbeckia Orientalis, referred to as the “Sichuan Siegesbeckia Orientalis Therapy”, is also introduced, wich is used to treat liver and kidney disease, numbness in the limbs, weakness of bones, as well as rheumatics. The therapy nourishes internal organs, improves hair growth, and is especially effective for women who have cold physical nature.

According to traditional Chinese medicine, hypertenion is caused by disorders in the liver (see the Internal Canon of Medicine). Dizziness or hypertension is considered to be closely related to the liver and kidneys and relieves weakness, which makes it effective in the treatment of hypertension. According to the five elements theory in TCM, the liver, which is associated with wood, has to be nourished by the kidneys, and the kidneys, and is thus superior to other drugs by both relieving symptoms and treating the cause of the disease. Records indicate that Siegesbeckia Orientalis (Shu Nao Liquid) helps maintain normal blood presure with the help of hypertension pills. Continuous treatment with Siegesbeckia Orientalis is required to treat Hypertension. When the blood pressure has stabilized, the medicine may be used to maintain health.
